Michele Pistone, Founder
Hi, I'm Michele- a professor at Villanova Law School, outside of Philadelphia, PA. I've been a law professor since 1999. In addition to Villanova, I also taught at Georgetown Law, Washington College of Law at American University and as a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Malta.
I believe that we are at the cusp of big changes in legal education. For years, the legal academy has been criticized because it does not teach students enough practical skills and professional values. Now, I think that the Internet affords us an opportunity to change all of that.If we collaborate to migrate the lecturing part of legal education to the web, precious face-to-face class time can be freed up for more active learning, that asks students to perform exercises and work with their peers in new and exciting ways that reinforce learning and introduce them to the many competencies that lead to successful lawyering.
I see LegalED as the tool that will get us there. As the video content is build out, professors can begin to assign the passive part of learning - listening to lectures - as homework. And our collection of in-class exercises can help professors as they begin to experiment with this new way of teaching. I'm excited about the future and encourage you to get involved in this project, Join the movement!
